Consumer Awareness Program for ATM Services

  1. Use Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) that are familiar or in well-lit locations where one feels comfortable. Always stay alert and be aware of your surroundings and always be vigilant when using the ATM especially at night. If the machine is poorly lit or in a hidden area, use another ATM.

  2. Practice checking the ATM before using it for signs of tampering and possible skimming devices. Check the keypad, card slot, and cash receptacle.

  3. Do not use ATMs that appear to have been tampered with or otherwise altered. Report such conditions to the bank.

  4. Have your card ready before approaching the ATM. Avoid having to go through your wallet or purse to find the card.

  5. Memorize your ATM Personal Identification Number (PIN) and never disclose it with anyone. Do not keep those numbers or passwords in your wallet or purse. Never write them on the cards themselves. Also, avoid using easily available personal information like a birthday, nicknames, mother’s maiden name, or consecutive numbers.

  6. ATM PIN should be changed regularly.

  7. Cover the keypad and block the screen when transacting and entering your PIN. Never write down or leave any traces that would reveal your PIN.

  8. Make sure to get your transaction receipt and check the details of your transaction. Limit your time in the ATM.

  9. Do not accept help from strangers. If you notice anyone or anything suspicious in the area, cancel your transaction, leave the area immediately, and report it to the ATM hotline.

  10. If the ATM is not working correctly, cancel the transaction, and use a different ATM. If possible, report the problem to the bank.

  11. Carefully secure card and cash in your wallet, handbag, or pocket before leaving the ATM.

  12. Do not leave the receipt behind. Compare your ATM receipts to your monthly statement. It is the best way to guard against fraud and it makes record-keeping easier.

  13. Do not let other people use your card. If your card is lost or stolen, report the incident immediately to the bank. Different touch points or channels are in place where client can file their feedback.
